Right in Front of Me? Or not?

…if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

Proverbs 2:3-5

Seeing a church right down the street from our house delighted me. I could not wait to go there. After our visit, I had no doubt about the “God-centeredness” of it. Friendly members, ministries reaching out to the community and the world, great worship, I could go on and on.

As great as the church was though, I had to admit disappointment when I did not feel this church would be our new church home. It seemed so convenient, so obvious, so perfect, but not necessarily where we should attend.

The following Sunday we went to the next closest church. Once again we had the same experience -- great church with friendly members, but seemingly not the one for us. Finally, we visited a third church, not quite as close, but not too far away either. God began nudging our hearts about the third church. It could become our home.

Sometimes God’s will seems right in front of me, but sometimes His will may not be the most convenient, easiest thing to do. I cannot just assume I know what’s best. I must be in constant communication with Him so I can know without a doubt what that best may be.

Just because something is good does not always mean God wants me to participate in it. He bids me to wait, listen to His voice, and obey. He does not expect me to take a shot in the dark, He directs me to what He has in store for me. That is how I find the “knowledge of God”. My search will not be in vain.

God, thank you for meeting us in our search to do Your will. Your answers are much better than our own.
