God’s Perfect Timing
You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come.
Psalm 102:13
At the beginning of the year, I buy an appointment book to keep me organized. This is my attempt at time management, which I’ve never been adept at.
God, on the other hand, is a master at keeping everything proceeding at the proper time. He doesn’t rush or procrastinate or forget an appointment. Solomon wrote, There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NASB).
I’m amazed at God’s orchestration of events throughout history to bring his Son into the world at exactly the right time. The genealogy of Jesus listed in Matthew 1 shows 14 generations from Abraham to David, 14 from David to the Babylonian exile and 14 from the exile to the Messiah. That alone took some planning.
Jesus was chosen before the creation of the world (1 Peter 1:20) to save us from our sins. Before Adam. Before the sun or the animals. Then God left clues of His plan sprinkled in the Old Testament.
God didn’t speak for 400 years. But He hadn’t forgotten His promise of salvation.
God waited until the Romans were established in Israel. He waited for the betrothal of Mary and Joseph, both of whom were descendants of David. God waited for the proclamation of a census to bring Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem.
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman (Galatians 4:4 NASB). Perfect timing.
Just as God chose Jesus before creation, He chose us as well. For He chose us in Him (Jesus) before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight (Ephesians 1:4). Since we can see God’s perfect timing in the events of the Bible, we can rest in the assurance He will work in our circumstances at the appointed time.
God, thank you for your perfect timing.
