Read between the Quotation Marks
“…you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you.” declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 29:12 & 13
Sometimes the tiniest little detail catches my eye. I noticed this morning that when the Bible says, “this is what the Lord says” or “declares the Lord”, quotation marks hug the words He speaks.
Well, of course, quotation marks show up because they surround the actual spoken words. Think about it! We see God’s words, hear his voice, feel his heart, and discover his character when we read between those quotation marks.
I truly believe God’s Word. I believe God said it. I believe He wants us to discover his message to us. He may have spoken the words back in Biblical times, but I believe they are relevant to us today.
I believe when He says if we call on him and pray to him, He WILL listen. He will allow us to hear his voice. He will be found by whoever earnestly seeks him. How refreshing! How praiseworthy!
The Lord declares it. “Declares” leads me to think that He really means it and wants us to hear it. He declares it, I accept it, and that settles it for me.
How fortunate are we to get to read God’s words from the Bible and hear his voice first hand! How amazing to trust in the God who wants us to find him.
My heart is full and I will surely pay much more attention to what comes in-between the quotation marks from now on.
God, thank You for speaking directly to each and every one of us. Thank You for your promise to answer our call.
