Promise Keeper
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”
Deuteronomy 7:9
Our God is a keeper of promises. In the Old Testament when it says that “He remembers”, it means that He acts according to His promises.
When Hannah was praying, and pleading for a son in 1 Samuel she says, “remember and not forget me” (1 Samuel 1:11 CSB). God did not forget Hannah, and blessed her with Samuel. She kept her promise to the Lord and turned Samuel over to Him all the days of his life.
Hannah gives us a good example of what is looks like to set aside our own desires, and focus on God’s greatness. Her first response in her sorrow was to bow in prayer, and recognized that God’s will for her life was the best path. God created us, and has a love for us that surpasses all understanding. He wants us to walk in His will for our lives because that is the best path.
When we pray, our thoughts and words should focus on His greatness—because He is Great. He has the best plan for our lives. He is our Promise Keeper.
Father, thank you for being my promise keeper. Thank you for listening to my hurt and my praise. It is my joy to follow and honor you, and I forever grateful that you remember me. Amen
