My eyes teared up as the special needs young man stepped to the podium and began to pray. His eloquence and passion shone through the simple words he used.

He prayed that God would forgive us when we do bad things which make Him sad. He also asked God to help us do things which would cause Him to smile. He prayed for the hungry to have food and the sick to get well. As his prayer continued, I realized what a perfect example of the Lord’s Prayer I was hearing in the sweet words of this young man.

Upon his amen, the whole worship center burst into applause. I had never experienced anything like that before, but I found myself joining in without hesitation. I felt like I had been led to the throne of God most high by this young man’s heartfelt prayer.

As he walked down the stairs back to his seat, the young man’s smile lit up his whole face. It was one of those ear to ear smiles that even further warmed my heart. I smiled right along with him while still blinking away my tears.

In that moment, I could not help but think that God smiled too.

God, I desire to make You smile. Guide my path in that direction each day. Help me to listen and obey. Thank you that our prayers reach You and You hear them.
