God Is My Instructor

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, I will council you and watch over you.

 Psalm 32:8

My youngest daughter woke up full of excitement to tell me about her dream. She was beaming as she explained to me in detail about this rainbow mermaid that she had in her dream and she had to have it. I listened with enthusiasm but told her lovingly that we were not going to buy her the rainbow mermaid.

She was devastated that we were not going to the toy store. She ran into her room and took down her Cinderella piggy bank. She was shaking it trying to get all the money out.

A few minutes later she came into the room running and waving a dollar bill in her hand. “Mom! Mom! I found a dollar! Can we go to the toy store now?”

I smiled at her and hugged her but told her that she would need nine more dollars to get her a toy, hoping to end the conversation.

My sweet daughter ran back into her room along with her sister and they proceeded to count more of her coins. Several minuets later they came out jumping up and down shouting, “We have ten dollars! We have ten dollars!”

At that moment, I realized I had hit a road block and I was unsure of which direction I should go. I needed God to give me wisdom on how to handle this situation…to mermaid or not to mermaid?

I chose to reward my daughter with a trip to the toy store because of her diligence. God’s Word says, “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.” (Proverbs 14:24).

Thank you Lord for always being there to listen and guide us when we need Your help.
