Borders

I run in the path of Your commands, for You have broadened my understanding.
Psalm 119:32

Sleep is the most precious commodity to a new mother. She will do just about anything to ensure her baby rests for as long as possible. Note on the door? Check. White noise machine? Purchased. Whisper and tiptoe. Obviously.

Even though you can control the noise level in your home, there are times when babies just wake themselves. The Moro Reflex often causes them to wake up crying because they feel like they are falling.

To counteract this reflex, many parents use the swaddle method, which mimics the secure environment of the womb. Babies need to feel “borders” and when they don’t, experts believe it increases the likelihood of this reflex occurring.

We all need borders to help us rest in security. In any society, family, or individual, the lack of parameters leads to chaos. A quick overview of history, or even our own lives, proves this point.

God’s Word provides the guardrails we crave.

How much time do you spend reading His promises? Do you know what He says about marriage and children? Have you consulted His Word about your finances or your worries?

Will you plan to spend more time in His Word than you do scrolling social media this year? It’s not going to happen by accident. You may need to delete some apps from your phone. Could you listen to the audio Bible as you cook or commute? What passages will you purpose to memorize?

Ask Him to help you set some realistic goals for the next month and then share them with a friend.

Father, thank You that You have provided Your Word to guide me. Help me prioritize time reading it each day.
