"And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man." (Luke 2:52)
Luke 2:40 says that Jesus ". . . was filled with wisdom," and in Luke 2:52 it says He, ". . . grew in wisdom." The word wisdom, in these verses, is translated from the Greek word sophia. I looked in a Bible dictionary and found the same translation of wisdom is used in 2 Peter 3:15 which says, ". . . Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him." It is also used in Colossians 3:16. "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom . . ."
The word study of sophia became fascinating to me when I began to realize the same wisdom that belonged to Jesus and to Paul can also belong to us. I knew wisdom from God was a tool every believer has in his life, through the power of the Holy Spirit, but I guess I did not realize it was the same as the wisdom of Jesus Christ.
Now, that is a "goal for growth." The wisdom of Jesus Christ is available to you and me. We can have the wisdom Christ was filled with and the wisdom that Paul wrote. To personally gain, and use, the wisdom of Christ may seem to be the hardest area in which to grow, but, in fact, all the wisdom is available to us through the Bible. As an educational tool, it is all printed and packaged in "user-friendly" form. Take it up, spend some time in the Word this next year and see if you don't experience growth in wisdom.
"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." (James 3:17)
