TRUSTING IN GOD'S TIMING

Luke 2:4,5

"So Joseph also went up from...Nazareth...to Bethlehem...to register with Mary, who was...expecting a child."

In 1970 we were living in a remote mining town in northern British Columbia, accessible only by plane or boat. A month prior to the birth of our first baby, I gingerly boarded the 12-seater "Goose" for my flight to Vancouver, to wait. This close to term, I needed a physician's certificate to travel.

Imagine what an OB/GYN would say to a donkey ride, due date fast approaching. "Really God, so close to delivery? to Bethlehem? all the way from Nazareth? Surely You can arrange for Your Son to be born at home. Not good timing!"

But it was...in God's timetable. He had promised the birth of this child, His Son, in the city of David. Now He had to get Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, to fulfill the prophecy.

I climbed aboard the "Goose" that day, knowing the rest of the plan. But would I have sat on that donkey? When faced with God's timetable, I confess to groans of "why now, Lord? This is not convenient for me. What are you thinking?" Rather, I need to trust in God's timing!
