PRIMING THE PUMP

"Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." JOHN 4:14

A final thankful heart this week...the woman at the well.

As a very young child, I loved family reunions. The best ice cream. The neatest races. The mystery of that old pump. The handle went up and down, up and down, and water came out the spout. To turn that sticky face up under the spout. To drink the water, fresh and cool. Well water, way underground, beyond reach, except for that pump.

And mystery on mystery, often an uncle would have to draw up water from a pail into the spout, to drive out the air and start the fresh water flowing. He had to "prime the pump".

Exactly what Jesus did for the woman at the well. Out of reach was eternal life, the living water. Unless Jesus gave her a drink, she could not draw up that water of life. His water, in her, causes the deep spring to well up to eternal life. Jesus primes the pump!

The Samaritan woman was grateful for the water of Jesus. You and I have also had that drink of living water from our Savior. Thank you, Jesus, for priming the pump!
