REJOICE IN GOD

Yet I will exult in the Lord,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
Habukkak 3: 18

Good, you're back. If you joined us for the first time today, take a moment to read Tuesday's devotional. Yesterday I asked you to fill in the underlined words with personal concerns and fears and talk to God about them. Today our passage continues with what you need to do.

Verse 8 begins with "yet". Does that infer to you as it does to me that although we are under undesirable circumstances we are to "exult" (rejoice greatly) in the Lord? What if we don't feel like it? Sometimes I like to stay downunder. Notice the "I will" between yet and exult. Umm...sounds to me as if that demands an action of doing. It doesn't say "if I feel like it I will". Habakkuk gets right down to the bottom line.

Then the next line continues with "I will rejoice". It does not say rejoice in my circumstances, but "in the God of my salvation". Why? David tells us the answer in Psalm 27:1 "The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?" Therefore, our fear is swallowed by our faith.

Yesterday, I challenged you to voice your worst fears to God. Today, I challenge you as an act of the will to rejoice in God based on faith. Tomorrow, we will discover God's response to us.
