SEEKING HIS WILL
"By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but Him who sent me." (John 5:30)
My relationship with Jesus Christ is based not only on making fellowship with Him a priority, and on praising Him continually, it is also important to keep my will surrendered to His will. The King James Version of the Bible translates the last phrase of the above verse as "I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."
The love that Jesus had for His Father caused Him to choose to be perfectly obedient and submissive to God. God in turn blessed Jesus with divine authority and life-giving power. Because Jesus was completely in the will of the Father, even in His death, His very life was glorified.
I haven't been called to submit to my Father's will in death, but He has called me to submit to a few disciplines in my personality. My tongue has to be put on hold many times. As the wife of a minister, I can't always say exactly what I think. At times my silence is required. God is working on me here, working on my ability to surrender to His will for us. I am beginning to see that God can use difficult circumstances to give me new truth, a truth that allows me to know that He is in control of me and is showing me His work all the time, in all circumstances.
Can you join me in continually trying to submit to the Father's will for your life? If you do, you can expect a transformed life and miracles in everyday events.
