CONFIDENCE
FOR I AM CONFIDENT OF THIS VERY THING, THAT HE WHO BEGAN A GOOD WORK
IN YOU WILL PERFECT IT UNTIL THE DAY OF CHRIST JESUS.
PHILIPPIANS 1:6
When I was twelve, I committed my life to living according to God's Word. It was not until I was in college that I understood my need to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to give Him control of my life. Then at thirty, while attending Bible Study Fellowship, I discovered I could study the Bible on my own. The Holy Spirit would be my personal tutor. Sure, I had read my Bible and completed my lessons, but had never experienced a one-on- one teacher/student relationship with Jesus Christ. Until that point of time, I thought that understanding God's word was only for pastor's, Christian authors and missionaries. Surely it was a gift given to only a few.
This week we have focused on several verses from Paul's letter to the Philippians. This was the very first book of the Bible that I personally studied. Today it is still my favorite. Why? Because God's words give me encouragement, contentment, hope, balance and confidence. Remember the popular quote: "Be patient, God isn't finished with me?" This contemporary saying sums up Philippians 1:6. Please continue seeking His truth and following His precepts because "He began a good work in you" and "He will perfect it until the day Jesus comes.
