The Drought of '98...deep ditches

..."This is what the Lord says; Make this valley full of ditches...You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink. This is an easy thing for the Lord..." 2 Kings 3:16-18

In this year of the great Texas drought, the photos of the dry and cracked land remind us of African countries that suffer constantly from lack of rain. Only, it is our river beds that are nothing but dry ditches. This is our own pastures where last year cattle enjoyed ample grazing, and our fields where crops were ready for harvesting.

Why, it is so hot that train tracks are suffering from sun kinks. Sounds like a joke, doesn't it? But not so. There was a derailment about 15 miles from Tyler just last week.

When our souls are dry and weary, the Lord tells us to make more ditches. Then no matter whether the forecast holds storm clouds or not, God can fill you with spiritual water. The more ditches the better.

How simple! When we are longing for a word from God, we just open up our hearts wider and deeper to our Lord. We spend the time in quiet study of His word, letting His Spirit pour in the refreshing waters.

And this is an easy thing for the Lord to do!
