EVERYDAY WITH JESUS

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convicted of, because you know how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:14-15

I have a daughter who is a teenager and that makes everyday a new experience for all of us. She wakes up in a new world every morning. There is no consistency in anything that happens, except for telephone use. One day there are posters of Hanson covering every inch of wall space and the next day they come down and are replaced by Backstreet Boys pictures. On Monday all the phone calls are from a guy named Michael, and on Tuesday someone named Cody is calling every five minutes. I can't keep up. She is growing up and we can't stand it. That sweet child of four who loved to color now spends her time drawing pictures of flowers and hearts on anything her hands touch. I am comforted in knowing she still loves Jesus and her heart is still open to the lessons He has for her.

She has recently fallen in love with Steve Green's new CD, The Faithful. She knows every song by memory and constantly wants it played in the car. This has been one of those great everyday teaching opportunities. It drives her crazy, but I constantly stop the CD and ask her to tell me the meaning of the song we have just heard. We discuss them and try to apply spiritual lessons to the things that are happening in our lives. I especially love the songs that are based on scripture. They provide one more opportunity to emphasize the importance of using scripture everyday. It seems to be a little harder for her find a good lesson in some of the other music she hears. Wonder why?

I hope she learns a lesson about the importance of what we listen to and applies it to some of her other choices in music. I think I saw in her room that the Aqua CD had been replaced by Point of Grace. That's encouraging.

What we listen to everyday directly relates to our attitudes and actions. I must be careful as well. At work there is always a secular radio station playing and I have no choice in the selection. But I do have a choice in my car and my home. I pray that my children will remember the lessons they learn everyday at home.

May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones. 1 Thessalonians 3:13
