Country Roads...The flock still needs feeding

Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care...not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you but being examples to the flock. 1 Peter 5:2-3

The back roads of southern Ontario wind through prosperous farmland. The landscape is painted with orderly rows of corn and potatoes and wheat. And of all the flocks we see, the spring lambs are the most fun to watch.

The farmers do all they can to bring food to market for us city folks. Of course there is always a fresh supply of tomatoes and beans and cucumbers for their own table, and no doubt one of those lambs is earmarked for the freezer.

We all have some of God's flock under our care. And Peter gives us good guidelines for feeding them.

1.Be Willing: shepherds love their sheep

You look after your family because you are willing, and you are willing because you love them.

      2.Be Eager: shepherds eagerly serve
The pay does not motivate a shepherd. Serving springs eagerly from a loving heart.

      3.Be Meek: shepherds are meek
Shepherds are strong, but that strength is tempered by meekness. They lead by example, not by authority.

Jesus, the Chief Shepherd, sets the example for care.
