Last Sunday our pastor told us, "We had a stranger come to our house this week. A man I had never met before came into my home. He slept in our bed, ate our food and even drove my car. You see, I have a daughter that's away in college, and this is the young man she is dating. She had brought him home to meet the family. We welcomed him in before we had even met him, not because of who he is (he's not even good enough for her!), but because of who my daughter is and his relationship with her."
What a fun word picture of our salvation. Scripture tells us that we were lost in sin and separated from God, but because of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, we are "brought near" to God (Ephesians 2:12-13). We now have access to Him and through faith may approach Him with freedom and confidence (Ephesians 3:12, Hebrews 4:16). It is not because of who we are, because we can never be "good enough" to come to God on our own. It's because of our relationship with Christ, God's Son, that God welcomes us into His presence (John 14:6,23). In John 12:26, Jesus says, "My Father will honor the one who serves me."
Because of our relationship with Jesus, we have access to God the Father. He honors us and welcomes us into His presence. And, one day, He will welcome us into His home.
