Do you ever get a song stuck in your mind that you just can't seem to shake--it just plays over and over in your thoughts? Of course, we all do. (That's a good reminder that we need to be careful what kind of songs we listen to!) One day I had an old gospel song stuck in my mind like that, but I was frustrated because I couldn't remember all the words. Remember the song "It Is No Secret What God Can Do"? My sweet mother-in-law has been a church musician all her life, so I called her to ask if she had the words to it. Well, the Lord had me call the right person.
"Oh, let me tell you about this song," she replied. "It's written by a man named Stuart Hamblen. I grew up in our church in Sweetwater, and we had a dear, sweet minister, Brother Hamblin. I remember we always prayed for his wayward son, Stuart. Years later when we moved to East Texas, I read in the paper about Stuart becoming a minister, and he later wrote this song." These are the words Mr. Hamblin wrote:
The chimes of time ring out the news--another day is through. Someone slipped and fell, was that someone you? You may have longed for added strength, your courage to renew. Do not be disheartened, for I bring hope to you
There is no night for in His light, you'll never walk alone; You'll always feel at home, wherever you may roam. There is no power can conquer you while God is on your side. Just take Him at His promises, don't run away and hide.
It is no secret what God can do. What He's done for others, He'll do for you. With arms wide open, He'll pardon you. It is no secret what God can do.
Can't you just picture this wayward son turning back to the Father and finding His arms wide open with pardon?! "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" (I John 3:1)
God is able to do more wonderful things in our lives than we could ever imagine, and it is no secret. Believe it. Live it. Let your faith and prayer life show it!
