When Moses sent his twelve men to explore the promised land, eleven of them returned fearful and discouraged. Caleb stood aloneand said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."
Caleb saw the glass as half full while the others saw the glass half empty. Having a positive attitude when those around you are negative is very difficult. Caleb provides an example of encouragement and confidence. His confidence is a result of knowing God's promise and recognizing all obstacles can be overcome when God's will is being activated.
In the workplace, we can become easily influenced by others to have a negative attitude either toward the job we are doing or toward the people with whom we are working. Likewise, we can be the one who is influencing others to have a negative attitude. We can either choose to be like one of the eleven or like Caleb.
When we are faced with a tough decision or circumstances, we shouldn't let the negatives overshadow the positives. Both sides need to be weighed carefully.
God's power to help us and his promise to guide us are as relevant today as they were for the Israelites hundreds of years ago.
We can overcome the obstacles and recognize that God's hand is in the outcome.
