The many years ago that I was in high school, if you went to a prom you were thrilled to be presented with a single gardenia for a corsage. (Of course, this was in Canada where we did not see gardenia bushes.) All evening you spread the delicious bouquet of that gardenia around you.
We have one thriving gardenia bush in our yard now, and for most of May we are able to pick fresh blooms every day to perfume several rooms of the house. My husband buries his nose in the blossoms on his way past each vase. I picked one for the neighbor, whose cat could not leave it alone. If the breeze is blowing the right way, we enjoy the fragrance on our back porch, way across the yard from the bush. If not, I guess our other neighbors enjoy it.
If ever there was an earthly bouquet that forecast heaven, it would have to be the gardenia. How interesting that God would create a scent that would bring such joy to my heart!
Father, I pray that I might wear a little of that heavenly fragrance so that others might get a whiff of your glory.
Nancy
