Orchids - don't you love them! They define the exotic. Step off the plane in Hawaii and you immediately feel exotic wearing your delicate orchid lei. When I step into heaven I'm sure there will be an orchid waiting for me.
Several years ago on a medical mission trip to Belize, Central America, I was enthralled with the abundance of wild orchids tucked into the rough branches of huge trees. And tropical orchids are wildly fragrant, whereas our domestic varieties are not, aside from the delicate "Lady-of the Night" with its mysterious evening perfume.
On that trip to Belize I watched our leader, crusty soul that he was in the city, be transformed by God's hand as he willingly sacrificed his time and comfort for the needs of those native folks. He was gentle and kind to everyone he met. The gifts of love he gave those Kechi Indians were as fragrant as the jungle orchids.
I pray that the gifts I give to others may leap the confines of domesticity and be as wildly fragrant as jungle orchids.
