The original mine at Jerome, Arizona, was underground. Miles of tunnels crisscrossed under the hillside to a depth of 4630 feet. The developers did not know that the Verde Fault ran under that mountain. The town was built on top of the mine. And when open pit mining began in 1918 after fires wiped out the underground tunnels, dynamite rattled and cracked the hill.
Small wonder the houses in Jerome began to slide. At the rate of 3/8" per month for 10 years there was a gradual shifting in walls and foundations, until a rapid escalation moved a whole block of businesses into the street below. The jail did not stop there. 225 feet lower, it was finally secured in place.
Fortunately, I have a foundation that is secure. God does not change like that shifting hillside. The life He has given me is based on the truths I find in the bible. If I build on God's word, all the stresses of life will not be able to undermine those truths.
I need to dig through the treasures in God's word every morning.
