How Long Can You Persevere?

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

On our travels this spring we happened upon Jerome, Arizona, a ghost town of the opulent mining era. In 1876, three prospectors staked claims in those hills on extremely rich copper deposits, and the rush for wealth began.

Nothing was easy. Tools were rudimentary. Supplies were miles away, and transportation was of the mule and wagon kind in the early days. No railroads, and certainly no trucks, to haul the mined ore to the consumer. Yet "copper fever" caused the owners to hang in and the mine at Jerome became known as the "Billion Dollar Copper Camp". Profits ran to 1 million dollars per month before the Depression reduced the operation to a standstill.

Amazing how the hope of wealth can cause people to persevere under such trials!

But we know that real wealth is not found in copper. I have been promised the crown of life, and I do not have to take up my pick axe and mine for those riches. They are given to me in return for loving Jesus. Amazing!

So, hang in when trials come your way.
