Our Inheritance As A Child of God

Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:12-13

God has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints. To qualify means "to meet the conditions." Our high school recently had graduation. Those seniors who met the conditions were qualified to graduate from high school and go on to the next level in their life. Jesus enables us to meet the conditions for an abundant life.

Let's say I go to the Bank of Heaven and apply for a loan. "Do you have an account here?" they ask. "Yes, I do," I reply. "And when was it opened?" "When I was eleven years old," I answer. "Very well, then, just fill this out, please," and I take the application and fill it out. When I return it to the loan officer, he studies it and says, "Let's see here. You're asking for unconditional love--okay; joy unspeakable--very well; peace that passes all understanding--alright; strength for your trials--ah; patience in all things--good; self-control--umm. It seems an awful lot to ask for, Becky, and I see you have no collateral. In fact, you have no assets at all. You have nothing to support this loan. I don't see how I can qualify you. I can't approve you...oh, wait a second. I see you have a co-signer--The Lord Jesus Christ. Well now, this is altogether different. He has all of these in abundance. In fact, He owns all of this bank. You can draw from these things anytime you want." And he takes my application and stamps it, "Qualified".

The enemy Satan would have us believe we are spiritual paupers, when in reality all the riches of God are available to us! (Phil. 4:19) In Ephesians 1:18, Paul says, "I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints." Now if we're turkeyized*, our attitude is "I've got so much lack, so much want in my life. I'll never make it." But if we live by who we are in Christ, the very resources of God are ours. All Jesus has--His joy, His peace, His strength, His patience, His love--is yours. You are qualified to share in His inheritance!
