The Stairs
Long and steep were the stairs I trod, with longing feet to find my God.
Some days I'd gain bit by bit, then I'd slip back, losing it.
Never gaining, but climbing still, with proud ambition and a selfish will.
Trying to climb to God, while He, sadly smiled, observing me.
Then came a certain day when I, forsook my climb and breathed a sigh,
Down to the lowest step my fall, as if I had never climbed at all.
But as I lay despairing there, Listen. . . a footstep on the stair.
And on that stair where I lay, broken and humble, in dismay.
Just when my hope ceased to be, my God came down the stairs to me.
* He sat with me, holding me tight, as I held Him with all my might.
Hoping to never leave this place, longing to see Him face to face.
As I looked up He said to me," Believe in My Son and I'll set you free".
" You'll climb those stairs once more, you see,
But this time beloved, you'll climb with Me. . . ."
Dear Lord,
Thank You for loving me so much, that You came to the bottom of my fall, and Loved me into Your arms, when I couldn't find "The Way." I praise you Lord for continuing to reach me when I slip back. My love for You grows stronger each day as we climb. . . . In Jesus Name, Amen.
Love,
Tammie
