In John 21, Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead. Simon Peter and six other disciples were fishing but not catching anything. Jesus tells them to put their net on the other side. When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because it was full of fish. Jesus asks them to bring some of the fish to him so he could cook them for breakfast. He took bread and gave it to them and did the same with the fish. It was here that Jesus commissioned Peter to change his occupation from fisherman to evangelist.
As fellow believers, we rejoice when the nets are overflowing as new believers enter the kingdom of heaven. What a privilege to be a part when some one discovers a changed life eternally.
You may experience this rejoicing as a prayer warrior, through your church outreach ministries, teaching Sunday School, serving on a missionary team, singing in the choir or serving lunch for the needy. However you choose to serve on an evangelistic team, each member is important and necessary.
I have had fun this week sharing with you about the similarities between being a fisherman and a fisher of men. Please take the opportunity to do both this summer.
