HE IS A WARRIOR

"The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing." (Zephaniah 3:17 NIV)

"He is mighty to save . . ." The Revised Standard Version of the Bible translates this phrase as "a victorious warrior." My paraphrase of the first sentence of this verse would be, "The Lord God, who lives with you, is a victorious warrior." Webster defines a warrior as, "a fighting man, a soldier." The Lord God is not just any warrior, but a victorious warrior, a winner! And, guess what? He is fighting on your side.

I read that in the 1997 NBA Playoffs Michael Jordan, of the Chicago Bulls scored 55 points in one game. The Bulls won the game, with someone of his talent on your team you can be assured of a victory. The Bulls could lose a ball game, even with Michael on the team, but you are not going to lose with God on your side. You can do more than merely survive in the struggles that you face; you can be victorious. When you pray to God for help, don’t just pray to get through the situation, pray for victory. God can use the fights that we encounter to show his mighty power. "With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies." (Psalm 108:13 NIV)

One of my favorite songs is one called "Mighty Warrior," by Debbye Graafsma.

"Mighty Warrior, dressed for battle,
Holy Lord of all is He,
Commander in Chief, bring us to attention,
lead us into battle to crush the enemy!"

These words seem to adequately describe the warrior who is our God. He is ready for battle, and ready to crush the enemy that faces you, the one He loves.

" . . . for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith." (1 John 5:4 NIV)
