This is one of my favorite verses. When I am anxious or fearful I can read this and feel calm and peace wash over me. Read it again. What do you think? Isn't it beautiful? Let's break it down and list the promises in this verse.
1. "The Lord your God is with you . . ." God is with us. He is right beside us holding on and never letting go. "The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." (Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV)Nothing can encourage us like God's word. Read it and let it comfort you.2. "He is mighty to save . . ." The Revised Standard Version of the Bible phrases this as, "a victorious warrior." "But the LORD is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonor will never be forgotten." (Jeremiah 20:11 NIV)
3. "He will take great delight in you . . ." I think this is my favorite one. The Lord has joy because of me. ". . . And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, So your God will rejoice over you." (Isaiah 62:5 RSV)
4. "He will quiet you with His love. . ." "He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul." (Psalm 23:2 NIV)
5. "He will rejoice over you with singing . . ." Back to joy. He will sing over me. Just think about the Lord singing over you. How often have you given someone so much joy that they would sing over you? "He says, 'I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises.'" (Hebrews 2:12 NIV)
