The Canyon has been cut into a low, rounded mountain called the Kaibab Plateau. The powerful force of the Colorado River has pushed its way through desert rock to reveal to us a cross-section of limestone, sandstone, shale and granite, deposited over the earth's lifetime. A record of God at work!
There is an enormity to the task of laying down years of bedrock. There is power in rivers that cut wide chasms in granite. There is strength and beauty in jagged peaks ribbed by the colorful reds and yellows of geological history.
And all this is a mystery to me. Especially since, from this height, the only glimpse of river I get is a slender ribbon of brown, far below. Where is that power and might?
But God, it is a greater mystery to me that in the midst of all this grandeur You are mindful of me. That You can even glimpse me next to these great cliffs, and that You care for me. That You actually made me a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned me with glory and honor.
Thank You for that thought.
Nancy
