Grand Canyon Suite...Humility

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place... Psalm 8:3

When I consider... Perched on a rock at the edge of the rim of the Grand Canyon at dusk, we were hoping for a glimpse of sunset's glory despite the clouds that day. On cue, the sun broke through to wash the rock with brilliance. The camera? In our room.

So the next morning, 5:30 a.m. found us briskly hiking the trail in 22 degree temperatures.(This was April!) God was right on cue again. A dot of red silhouetted a jagged peak on the opposite rim, then faded into the clouds above to reappear in a horizontal band trailing off to darkness. Although the clouds hung heavily, through that band of space they began to filter rays of white into the chasm to awaken here one craggy rock shape, and there a scrubby pinon pine with berries of sleet ripe on its branches, while at our feet a patch of snow became crisp white. Color spread from top to bottom as nature's rings of yellows and reds, dotted with green, were drawn out of darkness by fingers of light.

God, mountaintops have a way of humbling me, and causing me to consider your heavens, the work of your fingers...
