Did you ever toboggan when you were a kid? In the north, when the first snows flew we could hardly wait to pull out our toboggans and head for the nearest hill. It didn't matter how far we had to trudge up, the ride down was exhilarating, wind whistling past, snow spraying out in front. We took many a tumble into a snowbank before reaching the bottom of the hill. No one was in control.
I watched the Olympic luge event this year, amazed as the sleds moved at speeds up to 80 mph, barely touching the icy track. The racers lie on their backs, feet first, leaning into the curves to control the banking of their sleds, staying low to reduce wind resistance, letting the speed of the course propel them. They have both style and control, since landing in a snowbank at those speeds could be fatal.
During life's breakneck race to the finish, there are lots of curves to react to along the way. The secret to landing in style comes with keeping the faith. If I have the one who knows the sled, and the course, and the wind resistance, steering my life, I will finish in style.
