Going for the Gold...Running Strong

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us focus our eyes on Jesus..." Hebrews 12:1,2

Tony Volpentest is the fastest amputee athlete in the world. At the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta he set a new world record in the 100 meters and won another gold in the 200. Yet Tony has no feet and no arms. Can you imagine his hindrances?

When Tony was born, his parents were told he would never walk, but the doctors forgot to tell Tony. At a year of age he simply walked on his stumps. Now, fitted with the newest in prosthetics, he lets nothing get in his way. You should hear the crowds cheer him on.

Can you hear the great cloud of witnesses cheering you on from heaven, as you run life's race? Yet how easily I get myself tangled up in the things of the world. Sometimes it is outright sin. More often there are a myriad of minor distractions that trip me up and keep me from the race course marked out for me. It is high time I throw off all hindrances and stay on the track.

I find that keeping my eyes on Jesus, as I run, is the best way to keep on track. He not only marked out the course for me, but is setting the pace as He runs on ahead.
