During our church service on Easter Sunday, we greet each other in this manner. One says "He is risen" and another responds with "He is risen indeed!" What a glorious celebration it will be as we worship our living Savior.
We will complete this series of discovering the prophecies of the Old Testament which were fulfilled in the New Testament. As you read the last three, remember that as a member of the jury, you must reach your own verdict.
Messiah was to die as a sacrifice for our sins.
Prophecy: Isaiah 53:5,6, 8, 10, 11, 12 (I am only going to refer to 5 and 6. Please read the others on your own.) "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all."
Fulfillment: John 1:29 "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.' "
Messiah was to be raised from the dead.
Prophecy: Psalm 16:10 "Because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay."
Fulfillment: Matthew 28:1-10 (Please read the entire passage. I will use selected segments)
"After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Go quickly and tell his disciples.' So the women hurried from the tomb to tell the disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. 'Greetings,' he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, 'Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, there they will see me.' "
Messiah is sitting at the right hand of God.
Prophecy: Psalm 110:1 "The Lord says to my Lord; 'Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.' "
Fulfillment: Mark 16:19 "After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and sat at the right hand of God."
It's time to reach a verdict. All the evidence is in. Will you allow him to be your Lord? Easter morning greet your family or neighbors with "He is risen . . .He is risen indeed!"
