Life's Quilt...the frame

"You hem me in - behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain." Psalm 139:5-6

My grandmother took me to a quilting bee at her church when I was young and impressionable, and I still can hear the buzz of activity in that room. Fingers were flying fast through layers of fabric, thimbles clicking in rhythm, and tongues keeping pace. Love oozed out, as young and old alike shared stories and encouraged each other around the quilting frame.

That frame is like my life, stretched tautly within the boundless grace of God. I am held securely by His forgiveness and love. If I surrender to His will, the freedom to work the pattern is mine, for in surrender my pattern becomes His. He laid His hand on me.

What wonderful knowledge, yet so hard for me to recognize! God wrote the design of my life into my very being before I was born. And He encourages it every day within the framework of His grace.

Thank you Lord for providing the freedom of your grace while keeping me secure in your love.
