Life's Quilt...the pattern

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made...all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." Psalm 139:14,16

My great Aunt Marie gave me her crazy quilt. You can see the scraps of men's shirts, silk ties, blue ribbons from the county fair, elegant velvets and common ginghams. There is a real story of life in that quilt.

The patterned side of life's quilt is just that varied. All the days of my life are like those scraps of material, of different shape, size, color and quality. Some I have chosen on my own, some are there through circumstance, and some carefully placed by the hand of God.

The fine white baby cotton of innocence is mingled with the dark shape of my mother's premature death. There are some wild pieces, undoubtedly of my choosing. Perhaps I should have given God more control, but in His infinite wisdom He gave me the opportunity to choose some fabric for myself, to make mistakes, so I would learn to ask for His help.

God knew what my finished quilt would look like even before I was born. I just keep piecing it together, hopefully letting Him have a say in more and more of the fabrics.
