The batting is the thing that makes a quilt a quilt. Without this soft layer between the backing and pattern side of the quilt, you have nothing but a lined piece of fabric.
Jesus is like a soft layer of batting between my life and God. First of all, He is the only way I can be in contact with God at all. Only when I touched Jesus personally, could I know The Father and share eternity with Him.
Jesus then remains in a position to intercede for me. Since the stitches of my life pass right through Jesus to God, He helps my prayers along.
He also helps me to remain closer to The Father, through His word. He too knows me inside out, from the depths of my heart, to my very thoughts. If I depend on His word to reveal my offensive ways to me, I will be able to follow His lead in the way He would go, the way everlasting.
As a quilt is not a quilt without the batting, where would I be without Jesus?
