When I was young, there was a homemade quilt on each bed in our house. I was delighted when my grandmother gave me one of my own, in the double wedding band pattern. For years it stayed folded in the cedar chest, but she knew how I would love that quilt in a home of my own. As I smoothed out that same quilt yesterday, memories crept out...
A quilt is like my life in the Lord. The one part of the quilt that never varies is the backing. It is a plain piece of fabric, most often white, with all the stitches showing through. You have to have a backing, to finish off a quilt.
God is the backing to my life. He is always there. His presence, love, holiness, grace and faithfulness never vary. My life is only completed as I stitch it firmly to Him. Yet even more incredible - God knows each one of those tiny stitches before they ever get through to Him, as well as the heart from which they come, and He loves me for them or in spite of them.
I am glad that God is at the back of my life's quilt...
