There was a full moon last week, and it was beautiful. I'm always amazed at how bright the sky is when the moon is full. Even in my yard with no lights on from the house, there are shadows from the light of the moon. And yet we know that the moon gives off no light of its own. When the moon "shines," it is reflecting (casting back) light from the sun. Sometimes the moon looks like a gleaming silver globe. Other times is appears as a thin slice of light. Some nights it cannot be seen at all. But the moon itself does not change its size or shape. (World Book Encyclopedia)
We as Christians are sometimes likened to a light in the darkness (Matthew 5:13-16). Someone without Christ is living in the darkness of sin (Ephesians 5:8), and we are to be a light to them. We are to reflect (cast back) God's love to them--in who we are, what we say, what we do, how we respond. This is not something we can do on our own. We need His help.
Just as the moon can only reflect light when it is rightly related to the sun, we can only "reflect the Lord's glory" when we are rightly related to Him. The more we allow Him to transform us into His likeness--the more we become like Christ--then we are more able to reflect a better likeness of Him to others.
How is your reflection today? Are you full, gleaming globe? A thin slice of light? Can you be seen at all? As you are rightly related to the source of light, you will reflect His glory. I pray you shine brightly today!
