To Jesus, the most important thing was to Love God. The second was to Love your neighbor as yourself(Matthew 22:39). In the above verse, Jesus tells us how...As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
In his book How to Find Your Mission in Life, Richard Bolles aptly defines the three parts of your God-created purpose for living:
1. Live in God's presence
2. Make the world a better place to live
3. Exercise your talents for God's work
Loving God is the key to the first part. Making the world a better place to live is accomplished by loving others as Jesus would. Jesus' life was ripe with example. First of all, there was His sacrifice to death that I might have life eternal. But as important as that, was the way He showed me how to live day by day, loving my neighbor!
So the next time you have to make a decision about how to love your neighbor, ask yourself "What would Jesus Do?" And imitate Jesus with a fragrant offering (Ephesians 5:1-2).
