WHOSE WORKPLACE ARE YOU IN?

"Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If any one loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever."
I John 2:15-17

Whenever we have a employee meeting, the primary focus of the agenda is the bottom line ($$$). Make more money, work more effeciency, be cost effective and don't clock in any overtime in the process. It seems this type of "workplace" agenda is common with most organizations or businesses. They are usually "self-interest" driven by those in control. This can be called the world's agenda. It incorporates a set of rules, but as employees it seems the rules keep changing.

Those living by the world's agenda, attempt to find answers within themselves instead of seeking God's will. Human nature controls the world's agenda and people are focused on fulfilling their needs separate from God.

When separated from God, the passage in I John 2:15-17 reminds us that sin enters the picture.

Desires, lusts and boasting are all focused on self. They are certainly not a reflection of a spirit-controlled life. Unfortunately, most of our workplaces today are "under the influence of the world's agenda".

This was not God's original plan. Under His agenda He is the sovereign ruler. He has provided us with His plan and He has chosen us to accomplish His purpose. Therefore, we are His co-workers. "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 2:2

While the world's agenda has a list of rules to follow, God's agenda is based on our relationship with Him. We need to be cooperative and obedient. God is interested in what we do at work. Besides His own son, Jesus, knew about the workplace. Remember he was a carpenter until he was 30 years old.

You may not be able to change the "world's agenda" at your workplace, but you can be transformed by renewing your mind.

1. Ask God to reveal the influences around you that distract you from being God's co-worker.
2. Ask God to help you know His perfect will for you.
