WEARING MY HEART ON MY SLEEVE

Deuteronomy 6:6,8

"These commandments that I give to you today are to be upon your hearts. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads."

Do you wear your heart on your sleeve?

In Old Testament times, Jewish men wore certain scriptures in small leather boxes strapped to the forehead and left arm, as symbols of the commands of God in their hearts.

God's intent was for His Law to be engraved on our hearts, not merely written on two stone tablets, or in two leather boxes. The tablets and boxes mean nothing, unless His word is deeply etched into the living part of our being. Then man will live what is in the heart, the Love of God.

Today we wear symbols of the word of God in jewellery, logos on T-shirts, books, music, daily calendars on our desks. The symbols speak silently, consistent with our actions. Onlookers sense how deep the engraving is on our hearts, and are drawn to God, or turned off by the hypocrisy.

It is okay to wear my heart, engraved with God, on my sleeve. Then I will have lots of opportunity to reveal His love consistently.
