MAKING THE TRUTH MINE

2 Timothy 2:15-16

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Avoid godless chatter..."

If I am to make the most of every opportunity so God can use me, I need to be versed in His truths...

Devotionals refresh my mind. Max Lucado starts the day off at our house. Journey magazine is at the breakfast table. There is a perpetual Garden of Verses by my kitchen sink. In the morning, I brush my teeth to Prayer Patterns. At bedtime, I share "Diamonds in the Dust" with Joni.

However, these are second hand. I rejoice when I make the words of God mine. To sense abject humility as a fragile heart pours first tears, then perfume, on Jesus' feet. To find Jesus' purity in the beatitudes, so real for me today.

When the word of God is mine, then I will be ready to share the truths with others, instead of wasting my words in godless chatter. Then, I will win the approval of God.

As busy as you are, scatter your favorite devotionals around. But have a special place for your Bible, and keep a notebook and pen handy. After all, God is speaking.
