GOALS FOR GROWTH

Emotional or Social

"And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men." (Luke 2:52)

Our relationships with others reveal much of our inner spirit. Those who were closest to Jesus were aware of his humble and gentle spirit. They knew Him as a man who loved and cared for children, widows, lepers, etc. "But Jesus called the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.'" (Luke 18:16) He met needs on a personal level, and was never afraid to give part of himself to meet the needs of others. (See Mark 5:30-34) Jesus got involved in seemingly hopeless situations, to bring peace and light, and glory to God.

Stop and evaluate the relationships in your life. These relationships are usually either emotional or social. Are your emotional relationships, those with friends or family, glorifying to God? Are these relationships pure and good? Is there something in these relationships that needs correcting?

Social relationships are with those people who come into our lives for brief periods. Do we make the most of every opportunity God sends our way, and use them as chances to witness? Does your attitude in these situations glorify God?

Jesus was not afraid of relationships. He got involved even when he felt in need of rest. Read the book of Luke and notice how often Jesus took interruptions and used them to glorify God. He used them as opportunities to meet physical needs or to teach God's grace.

My life has been full of times I have missed opportunities to minister. I am seeking to grow in this area, and to be more aware of the people God puts in my path.

I want to grow in the way I minister to those around me, remembering, "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'" (Matthew 25:40)
